Animal ID: 17-10-20-00332Sundance (male)

Redbone Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET SUNDANCE, a 2-year-old redbone coonhound mix. For those unfamiliar with them, redbones are one of the sweetest breeds among the hound group. They're affectionate, companionable, loyal and moderately energetic - in short, a great choice for a family dog. They can even adapt to apartment living, since hounds are great couch potatoes. We've placed a number of redbones and redbone mixes over the past few years, and everyone who has adopted one has been crazy about them. Don't be crazy enough to pass up this gem of a dog! Sundance's adoption fee is $225. You can apply for him online at www.savethestrays.org or email info@savethestrays.org ... (Read More)for our application. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-21-00151Delilah (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

DELIGHTFUL DELILAH. This 3- to 4-year-old boxer mix had a rough start to life and has a few scars to prove it. But she has blossomed here at Save the Strays, exhibiting that wonderful combination of clown and faithful companion that so typifies the boxer breed. Delilah loves nothing better than being by your side. Like most boxers, she gets bored and lonely if left alone for too long and will do her best to get to wherever you are (including climbing a 4-foot fence). She definitely needs to be a house dog! Fortunately, she seems to be house trained and hasn't shown any destructive tendencies indoors. Delilah had a thorough vet exam at intake ... (Read More)and got a good health report, but did test positive for heartworms. Because she had no clinical signs, she has been given the 'slow kill' treatment, which is less risky than immiticide injections and doesn't require strict crate confinement. She has completed her 30 days of doxycycline and now needs only monthly doses of heartworm prevention, like any other dog. For more about heartworm treatments, including the slow kill method, visit www.dogaware.com/articles/wdjheartwormtreatment.html. If you're looking for a wonderful dog that really knows how to give and receive love, consider applying for Delilah online at www.savethestrays.org or email info@savethestrays.org for our application. Her adoption fee is $225. (Less)

Lab    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

This gorgeous, 2-year-old black lab is DARBY. Although she's technically an adult, Darby still has a bit of puppy in her. She's energetic, playful and a bit mischievous, but affectionate and gentle, as well. For those who aren't familiar with Labrador retrievers, they're one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. because their good dispositions and loyalty to their humans make them such wonderful family dogs and companions. Darby is no exception; she's ready to return all the love her adopters can give her. This great gal is crate- and leash-trained and seems to be house-trained. Darby had a thorough vet exam and got a good health report, ... (Read More)but she did test positive for heartworms. Animal ID: 17-07-08-00333Chester (male)

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

If you love hounds, you'll love CHESTER. This 1-year-old black and tan coonhound mix loves to run and sniff around the exercise areas here at Save the Strays. But, like most hounds, he's quite happy lounging indoors, as well. Also like most hounds, he's food-driven. Show him a treat and he'll try his best to do what you want, once he understands what that is. He learned to sit in 5 minutes using treats. That's also how we trained him to kennel up in his crate when he comes inside. He's pretty smart, so if you get a bag of treats and devote an afternoon, you can probably teach him most of the basic commands. Chester is large (58 lbs.) and ... (Read More)fairly active, so he needs room to run. A fenced yard would be best, but he can be walked on leash (needs a little work). Because of his size and enthusiasm, we think he would be best with adults only or a family with older, bigger children so he doesn't knock them down when he greets them. As for other dogs, he seems to prefer females, although a male that doesn't act aggressive or challenge him may be okay. Apply for Chester online at www.savethestrays.org or email info@savethestrays.org for our application. Adoption fee $225. (Less)

Animal ID: 16-04-30-00170Snickers (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

SNICKERS is a 4-year-old chocolate lab mix who simply melts when she gets some attention (like a good belly rub). She loves playing with toys - especially if they have squeakers - as well as chasing and fetching balls. She gets along with most other dogs her size or larger if they're not aggressive toward her. She's not a good fit for a home with small animals because she seems to think they're toys. Snickers is the kind of dog who would enjoy a walk with her adopter, but doesn't need constant activity. She's also happy just to hang out with you. Wouldn't someone out there like to hang out with her? Apply for Snickers online at ...
